Ingredients and composition

The grow kit contains a specially formulated substrate that is fully overgrown with mycelium of the Hillbilly Pumpkin (Psilocybe cubensis). The substrate is packaged in a specially designed grow box. In addition, a grow bag with filter and a reusable bag clip are included.

Instructions for setting up the Hillbilly Pumpkin Grow Kit

Always work in a clean environment to prevent contamination by unwanted microorganisms. Working hygienically is essential. Use only clean tap water or mineral water for misting and soaking. Distilled water or demineralized water is not suitable for this.

1. Remove the grow bag from the packaging and unfold it completely.
2. Open the bag by removing the airtight clip at the top. Carefully introduce some fresh air into the bag by gently stretching it and then close it again with the clip. To limit sideways growth of mushrooms, you can place an elastic band around the outside of the bag, about 1.5 cm below the top of the substrate.
3. Follow the growth process: keep a close eye on the bag as soon as the mushrooms appear. Watering is not necessary during the first two growth phases. When the caps start to open, it is time to harvest. Note: not every variety forms a veil or releases spores.
4. Harvesting: ensure a hygienic working environment by disinfecting your hands and preferably wearing gloves. Carefully twist the mushrooms clockwise to loosen them. Harvest as soon as the caps open for best results. Depending on conditions, the mushrooms are usually ready for harvest after two to four weeks.
5. Care after harvest: after the second flush, add a small amount of water (about one third to the level of the substrate). Close the bag again tightly with the clip. Don’t forget to add fresh air occasionally. Any excess water that has not been absorbed after twelve hours can be drained.
6. Temperature management: keep the temperature as constant as possible between 20 and 25 °C for optimal growth. Large temperature fluctuations can negatively affect the yield.
7. Subsequent harvests: at least two harvests are possible per grow bag, but under favorable conditions this can also be three or four. After each harvest, close the bag again and add water to stimulate new growth.

How to Store the Grow Kit

It is wise to start the growing process immediately as soon as you receive the grow kit. If you choose to start later, which may affect the quality of the kit, you can store the grow kit in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks (at temperatures between 2°C and 8°C). You can simply leave the grow bag with mycelium in the box and place it in the refrigerator. Make sure your refrigerator is clean and free of mold. As an extra precaution, you can place the set in a clean plastic bag or grow bag.
