Microdosing Routine

If you want to use microdosing, it is best to apply a microdosing routine. This is a schedule that indicates when you should take a microdose. It's not always wise to microdose every day for a longer period of time, because then tolerance can occur. A schedule or routine gives you something to hold on to. There are several schedules you can choose from.

Why use a microdosing routine?

Using a routine for microdosing psychedelics gives you a guideline to follow. It is wise to stick to this. There are several reasons for this:

  • To avoid tolerance
  • To properly observe the effect of microdosing
  • To give your body time to recover

Several routines have been established. The best known is from James Fadiman, who has done a lot of research into microdosing. In his schedule, rest days are alternated with microdosing days. He says that these rest days are necessary in order to observe the differences between days when you take a dose and days when you don't.

Whatever schedule you choose, after 1 or 2 months of microdosing you should take at least 2 to 4 weeks of rest (no microdosing). This will prevent you from building up tolerance.

Tips for microdosing

Tip 1: What to microdose with?

Microdosing can be done with any psychedelic substance, for example mushrooms, truffles, cannabis or LSD. For magic mushrooms and truffles microdosing works best when they are dried. In our webshop you can find ready-made kits magic truffles for easy microdosing.

Tip 2: Take a small dose

If you want to get more out of your day, take your dose preferably in the morning and make sure you do not take too much. The first time it is better to take a dose that is too small, than one that is too large. Make sure you have the day off and take the time to observe what the microdose does to you. The dose should be just big enough so that you feel the effects, but that it is not so strong that you can't function anymore. If you notice that you are getting sleepy (which usually does not happen), take your dose in the evening. If you have taken too little and do not feel anything, do not take a second dose, but take a little more the next time you microdose.

Tip 4: Too high a dose

If you don't feel comfortable with the dose you took, if it was too strong, then it is advisable to try and relax as much as possible. Try meditating or taking a walk in nature.

Tip 5: Write down what you are experiencing

It can be useful to make notes about how you feel. This will give you a clearer idea of what the microdosing routine is doing to you. Especially during the first few weeks you may notice a difference between the days you take something and the days you don't and you will be more aware of the positive changes.

Overview of microdosing routines

Routine by James Fadiman

The schedule of Fadiman is often used. It is assumed that you take a microdose every three or four days. For the sake of convenience you can also opt for 2 fixed days per week. Follow this schedule for 4 to 8 weeks and then take a break for at least 2 weeks.

Day 1

You take your microdose (preferably on a day off) and experience the effect.

Day 2

Transition day: On the second day you do not take a microdose. This is because the dose from the day before is still effective.

Day 3

This is a normal day or a non-microdosing day. Again, you do not take a dose yet, so that you can feel the difference with the previous days. This day is also meant to prevent your body from becoming tolerant to the drug.

Day 4

The fourth day you will take another microdose. You will have to decide whether to take more or less than last time, or keep the dose the same. It is important that you find the "sweet spot": exactly the dose you feel comfortable with.

Every other day routine

Some people benefit more from a routine where you take a microdose every other day. Especially if you suffer from chronic complaints, such as depression, migraines or ADHD, this may work better than the Fadiman routine. However, it is advisable to consult your doctor first if you have mental problems, especially if you are on medication. Even if you take very small quantities of a psychedelic, it will influence your mood and can interact with medication. For this scheme also applies: apply it for 4 to 8 weeks and then take a break of at least 2 weeks.

Every other day routine:

  • Day 1: Microdose
  • Day 2: Rest day
  • Day 3: Microdose
  • Day 4: Rest day

Continue in the same way.

Microdosing on feeling/intuition

This routine (although it is not really a routine) is based on your own feelings. It is especially suitable for people who have been following James Fadiman's routine for a long time. They will at a certain point rely more on their feelings to determine when they need a dose. For people who have no experience this method is less suitable. It is best to find out first what microdosing does to you.
